Our very own Hometown Hero!

9/2021 - We are so excited to share that LSPCA President Mikala Steele has been awarded the WCNC Hyundai Hometown Hero Award to honor her life of volunteerism and dedication to the life-saving mission of rescue of homeless, injured, abused, and neglected animals. She was awarded a brand new 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe provided by Bob Mayberry Hyundai! Mikala was presented with the award by Fred Shropshire, WCNC News Anchor, Eugene Robinson, co-host of Charlotte Today, and a representative from Bob Mayberry Hyundai.
We could not be more proud of Mikala and can't think of anyone more deserving of this award! She and Marty have spent their lives dedicated to saving lives and being the voice for abused and injured animals and making sure that every animal is given proper care and love. Here's an excerpt from the nomination essay sent to WCNC:
“Mikala is the most selfless individual we know. When she hears of an injured, abused, neglected, emaciated, or dumped animal anywhere in the county, she is the first one there to rescue the animal. She has made countless trips in her personal vehicle to the closest emergency vet, which is a 90-minute roundtrip from her home. While the animals recuperate, often from severe and heartbreaking injuries, she fosters them in her home and shows them love, compassion, and how to live in a loving home. Mikala and husband Marty provide transport for adoptable animals from our local shelter to partner rescues up and down the east coast. Sometimes it is a vanload full of animals and other times it is just a few, because like true rescuers, they feel every one of them counts. In addition to rescuing, fostering, and transporting, they use their personal truck and trailer almost every week to pick up pallets of donated food from the Walmart Distribution Center and deliver the donated food to a local food pantry, Meals-on-Wheels, LSPCA Cat Sanctuary, LSPCA fosters and feed colonies of feral cats. They also give it to anyone in need on Lancaster SPCA’s free food giveaway days. All of Mikala's free time is spent serving her community, caring for the needs of animals, and making sure that they all feel loved. Mikala is a true hometown hero as she is the voice for abused and abandoned animals, and Lancaster is a better place because of her.”
Please watch the Hometown Hero segment on tonight's 6:00 News (9/1) on WCNC and tomorrow (9/2) at 11 AM as a feature on Charlotte Today with Eugen Robinson.
We Love YOU Mikala Steele, CONGRATULATIONS on this well-deserved recognition! ❤❤

July newsletter - Kick Off of LSPCA Transport Van Fun Campaign!

07/2021 - You can help LSPCA save lives by moving animals from the Lancaster County Animal Shelter to rescues in other parts of the country where there are adopters waiting for them. LSPCA is looking to purchase a much-needed van to be used for transports several times per month and much more.

We are hoping to raise $45,000 to cover the cost of a 2021 Ford Transit 250 High Top Van. To date, we've raised about $12,000 and while that's a great start, we still have a ways to go! You can be part of the solution with a small or large donation to help us achieve the goal of getting animals to places where there are many qualified and willing adopters with loving homes. Every dollar will go toward the Van Fund and every dollar will save lives!

Thank you to all the Shelter-in-Place 2020 Sponsors

Our Open House and Shelter Tours event was a huge success. Lancaster County should be so proud of this gorgeous new facility that will make a tremendous difference in the lives of the homeless, unwanted and discarded pets that find themselves in the shelter looking for a new home and a better life. We could not be more grateful to you all.

Dedication of statues at the new shelter

September 23, 2020 - Construction on the new shelter is almost complete. Beautiful dog and cat statues were created by artists Pook Bellini and Kristina Ray and contributed by the Lancaster County Council of the Arts. They were dedicated and installed at the new Lancaster County Animal Shelter on September 23, 2020 in preparation for the shelter opening in late October. The statues will help welcome the public to this amazing new space which is a great asset to the Lancaster community and all the animals in need.

The address of the new shelter is 2074 Pageland Hwy., Lancaster, SC 29720. Opening to the public is slated for late October. Check back here for details as they become available.

Donate a Bed For a Shelter Pet

August 10, 2020 - LSPCA would like to provide every pet at the Lancaster County Animal Shelter with a Kuranda Bed. A Kunanda ShelterBed is a life-changing gift! They are made in the USA and are practically indestructible! Specifically designed to be easy-to-clean, last for years and years, they resist chewing and digging - perfect for a shelter environment! These beds provide essential comfort -- helping them sleep better, reducing stress behaviors, and increasing their chance for adoption! To donate a bed, visit LSPCA's wish list at https://donate.shelterbeds.org/369717

Shelter in Place 2020 to Replace the Fur Ball this Year

August 5, 2020 - As we are unable to host our annual Fur Ball event, this year LSPCA is partnering with the Lancaster County Animal Shelter to raise funds to address the needs of the shelter.

Your donations will be used to help the 3000 - 5000 animals that go through the shelter each year.

The name or logo of every sponsor will be displayed at the new shelter and sponsors will be advertised on our social media pages, website and newsletter.
Although COVID-19 will prevent us from enjoying the Fur Ball with all its delicious food, fancy attire, and tasty cocktails, we are arranging a private Open House and tour of the new Lancaster County Animal Shelter for our “SHELTER in Place 2020” sponsors prior to the opening to the public. All social-distancing and precautionary measures will be in place for our guests.

We ask that you please complete the sponsorship form shown below and return it by September 1, 2020.

If you'd like to donate in memory or in honor of a loved one or beloved pet, we encourage you to make a donation in their name in any amount you'd like.
